 Dear Parents,

Happy Cinco de Mayo!  It is hard to believe that it is already the month of May.   We are looking forward to our field trip to el Tapatio Market in Riverside!   Please be sure that you have returned your permission slip for this field trip.

We are ready to begin Theme 10, A World of Animals, in reading.  Our read aloud story for this week will be Run Away.   We will also work on the Jj sound as heard in Jumping Jill.  The new high-frequency word for this week will be are.  The last set of flash cards for the children are included in today’s envelope.

Our Bible story this week will focus on Paul’s Conversion. Paul was first known by the name Saul and he did not like Christians.  God changed Paul from an enemy of Christ into a true believer.  Then God used Paul as a special helper known as a missionary to teach people more about Jesus.  I will help the children understand that they are missionaries also and they can teach others about Jesus too!

In math we will continue working on and practicing the numbers 10 - 31.  We have introduced the 10 frame.  When the children see the 10 frame, we want them to automatically know that there are 10 and can add on from that point. Our Shop ‘til You Drop Day will be on Thursday, May 9th.  We still need items for this sale.  Besides toys for this sale we will also accept some edible treats.  If you are interested in helping with this event, please sign up on the sheet on the window outside our classroom.  Many thanks for your help with this event!!!

Our science unit will consist of plants and growing things.  We will also draw in the social studies concept of how people farmed years ago versus how farming is generally done now.  This unit will be covered through the month of May.

One final reminder; the Concert on the Green will be held on Thursday, May, 15th in the school yard.  The children will be singing.   Families are invited to come and have a picnic dinner or purchase dinner.  Please mark your calendar and plan to attend!  It is a great event!

Have a great week!

Joyfully Serving,

 Mrs. Martin
