Middle School Information
Middle School Discipline Plan
Rewards: Verbal praise, “smiley” notes, classroom treats, extra recess, etc.
Consequences:
Student conduct and behavior is a choice. If students choose to make poor choices, there are consequences for their behavior.
First Time: Verbal Warning
Second Time: Name in behavioral log and lose lunch recess
Third Time: Behavioral Card is sent home for parent signature
Fourth Time: After school detention and visit to the principal
This is our 2nd year with our discipline plans put into place for our middle school—sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. Each day students start off with a clean slate. So if they made poor choices the day before, they can make better choices the next day.. All middle school teachers will be monitoring student behavior. If a student was already warded for talking in class, then their next offense, even if it is with a different middle school teacher will lead to the next step of discipline. If a behavioral card is sent home, it must be signed by the parent and returned the next day. Parents are encouraged to discuss the unacceptable behavior with their child.
When a detention notice is sent home, it will have a date for the student’s scheduled detention. Detentions will be served from 3:-00-4:00 PM in either the sixth, seventh, or eighth grade classroom, and cannot be rescheduled. Detention notices require a parent signature and must also be retuned the next day. If a student has continuing discipline problems the principal will be informed and a parent/teacher/principal conference may be scheduled. Students may skip steps and receive a larger consequence, even for a first offence if their behavior warrants it. Parental support of classroom discipline is appreciated. Parents should be aware the when a child brings home a behavioral card, it is not for making just one poor choice. By the time a student receives a behavior card, they have already made three poor choices.
Our ultimate goal is to help the students continually make good choices in all their activities.
Homework Plan
The Middle School teachers have implemented a new reward system for homework. Each week students who have all of their homework turned in on time and no behavioral checks for the week will have a twenty minute recess on Friday afternoon. Those children, who did not, will work inside writing a reflection on what they can do differently to achieve the goal of having no homework or behavorial checks.
This will take place every week. Students start fresh on Mondays. Students who make it a half quarter with no missing homework will get to walk across the street with Mrs. Voelker and buy a Jamba Juice to have at their desk. Students who make it the whole quarter with no missing homework will get to walk across the street with the teachers and buy lunch and also receive a homework pass good for any subject. These awards have been put into place to reward those children who continue to do an awesome job and also to provide extra motivation for those who need a little added incentive to stay on target.
